Fuzhou is not only the home of jasmine-scented green tea, it also houses a thriving selection of traditional Chinese architecture. The Xichan Temple in Fengwei Village was a hidden gem among these.
The temple is located just 1.5km west of Fuzhou City, and can be reached by bus, mini cab, taxi or walking. After struggling to find the right stop for ages, we eventually caught the local bus from outside our hotel, and jumped off at the Xichan Temple bus stop just outside the front gates.
Before entering we made a voluntary donation towards the upkeep of the temple and grounds. The time flew past us as we set about admiring the many lakes, bridges and lychee trees that covered the ground. The main temple, situated towards the back of the complex, has six different levels, with a wonderful view of the city on the top level.
